June is National Safety Month

Golf Photo with text: June is National Safety Month, Protect Your Teeth And Mouth

Keep your teeth safe.

June is National Safety Month. National Safety Month is an annual month-long observance in the United States each June that aims to reduce the leading causes of injury and death through increased awareness of safety and health.

UV Safety Month - Safety starts with me!

Your dental health contributes to your overall health. When considering your safety, remember to protect your teeth and mouth, as well as the rest of your body.

Here is a list of safety tips:

  • Wear a protective chin cup or mouth guard while bicycling, skateboarding, or skating. And don’t forget to wear a helmet.
  • Your teeth are not tools. Do not use them to pry open bottles or cans.
  • Refrain from chewing your nails. It can damage your tooth enamel and introduce bacteria.
  • Take care of your teeth by getting regular dental hygiene cleanings with examination.
  • Brush your teeth after meals and before bed.
  • Floss your teeth once a day.
  • If you have a toothache, contact your dentist.
  • If you have a broken tooth, contact your dentist immediately.
  • No one wants to have to find a dentist because of an emergency while they’re on vacation. If you are planning to travel, be proactive and get a dental checkup a few weeks before you leave. This way, problems can be nipped in the bud, and help to ensure an enjoyable trip.
  • If you have missing teeth consider your options including removable dentures and permanent tooth replacement with dental implants. Consider a prosthodontist, an American Dental Association recognized specialist in the restoration and replacement of teeth, for your dental treatment.

Please make your teeth a priority and take care of them. If you have a dental question or would like to schedule an appointment, please feel free to contact Pi Dental Center.

A Patient’s 30 Year Dental Implant Success Story

Posted by Pi Dental Center on Mar 4, 2019 2:17:46 PM

The entrance to Pi Dental Center.

Thirty years is a long time.
A new report outlines the treatment of a Pi Dental Center patient who had dental implants for over 30 years. Now that’s an awesome success story!

In February, The Journal of Prosthodontics published an article written by Pi Dental Center dentists, Thomas Balshi and Glenn Wolfinger called, “A 30-Year Follow-Up of a Patient with Mandibular Complete-Arch Fixed Implant-Supported Prosthesis on 4 Implants: A Clinical Report.” Stephen Balshi MBE of CM Prosthetics and Dr. Avinash Bidra co-wrote the article. Read Article.

The report outlined dental implant placement and ongoing treatment for a patient who had implants placed in the lower jaw supporting a full fixed implant-supported prosthesis. While most longitudinal studies have tracked patient treatment for 10 years, this one was unique in tracking patient care for 30 years.

In 1987, our patient was 53 years old. She was missing all of her upper teeth. Her lower teeth required removal due to severe periodontal disease with extensive bone loss. For her lower jaw, our patient chose the All-On-4 Dental Implant Treatment Protocol, a cost effective option that allows patients with financial challenges to have fixed teeth. She wore a complete removable denture in her upper jaw.

Key To Long Term Success

A key to long-term success is vigilant oral hygiene and regularly scheduled professional maintenance visits. With diligent follow-up care, the All-On-4 Dental Implant Protocol has proven to be a viable treatment option.

Our patient retained all four implants for 30 years with good bone levels and no biological complications. Frequent maintenance visits ensured that prosthodontic complications were swiftly resolved and chewing ability was maintained.

“Patients shouldn’t have to put their lives on hold because of dental problems. At Pi Dental Center, timely dental care is a priority. With our trademarked Teeth In A Day® protocol, patients can return to their normal routines quickly,” states Dr. Glenn Wolfinger.

Pi Dental Center can help you to achieve your goal of a beautiful functional smile in a short time. Our efficient protocols make your dental care convenient. Our caring staff makes your experience pleasant. Trust your dental care to Pi Dental Center.

ProsthImagination – The Key to Exemplary Dental Care

Posted by Chris Raines on Dec 18, 2018 2:10:06 PM

Prostimagination

“The true sign of intelligence is not knowledge but imagination,” Albert Einstein

Creativity is a key component in prosthodontic dental care and imagination is required to create a flawless dental restoration. Whether it’s a crown, bridge, denture, or dental implant supported prosthesis, creativity is an integral component. It takes creativity to construct an ideal final product that fits well, feels comfortable, looks attractive and suits the patient’s face.

In many cases, a prosthodontist is the best choice for your dental care. A prosthodontist is a dental specialist who has completed dental school plus three additional years of rigorous advanced training in an ADA accredited prosthodontic graduate program.

Dentistry is an exacting science with protocols that are driven by research. But where science stops, creativity begins.

“Imagination is the beginning of creation,” George Bernard Shaw said. Creating an exquisite restoration begins with really understanding our patient’s vision for their perfect smile. Collaboration and communication allows the prosthodontist to help the patient attain their goal.

One of the biggest challenges is creating a smile for a person who is missing all of their teeth. It’s like starting from scratch. The shape of the face, surrounding dentition, bite, jawline and midline are all considered when creating a new smile.

Comfort and function is crucial. Your teeth should feel like you were born with them.

A person’s smile is very personal and the teeth must suit their features precisely. A prosthodontist understands the complexities of facial structures. Shape, color and size are key components in the design when making a smile that looks natural and pleasing.

Who should seek treatment from a Prosthodontist?

  • Anyone who is missing a tooth
  • People who are considering dental implant treatment
  • People who need precisely fitting removable dentures
  • Patients with temporomandibular disorders (TMJ/TMD)
  • People who have advanced dental health issues
  • Anyone who is looking for impeccable esthetic results
  • People who want to go to a single specialist who can perform all phases of treatment
  • Those who need crowns, bridges or any type of dental prosthesis
  • Folks who are looking for a dedicated professional who is responsive to their unique dental needs.
Creativity and prosthodontics go hand in hand.

Great dentistry is the integration of science with creativity. Pi Dental Center is a prosthodontic practice located in Fort Washington, Pennsylvania. Dr. Glenn Wolfinger is a Board Certified Prosthodontist with over 30 years of experience. At Pi Dental Center, we combine science, skill and state-of-the-art technology with creativity to provide outstanding care and prosthetics. Contact us to schedule your comprehensive evaluation.
