Going from 'I Need Dental Implants' to 'I Want Dental Implants'

Posted by Pi Dental Center on Apr 16, 2015 8:13:00 PM

Dental implants have become the state of the art in keeping a smile young and healthy, but until that priceless life asset is firmly intact as a part of you, there can often be a strenuous exercise in hesitation.

First, there is the age-old myth to put to rest. “Save the tooth at any expense” has lost its luster. A dental implant has significantly more longevity than a standard crown, and if the tooth has been repeatedly re-treated and weakened, the crown may be a short term investment of sizable proportion. Smiles built upon dental implants can be very cost effective when considered over lifetime dental care.

The second hurdle is often anxiety. This can be erased if the prospective patient diligently accomplishes their homework in advance. The long range success of a dental implant reconstruction requires the vision of a prosthodontist. This is the dental specialist who spends several additional years rigorously training in the three-dimensional engineering of the perfect occlusion. In the experienced hands and discerning eyes of a board certified prosthodontist, a patient should find the confidence that whisks away anxiety. The Pi Dental Center, with thirty years of experience, proudly publishes our success rate at 98%. Only undetected systemic abnormalities and excessive smoking post-surgically are contraindications to fully restored smiles. Never be afraid to ask questions. The more a patient understands about dental implant care in advance of the treatment, the gentler and more predictable the experience will be.

The third hurdle is time. We are a busy world always over-filling our schedules and not wanting to use leisure time for comprehensive dental procedures. That is why the Pi team perfected our trademark—Teeth in a Day®. We have streamlined the dental implant procedure to make it happen from diagnosis to delivery of the final custom smile in as few as four visits, and only one of these visits will require a day or two of quiet recovery.

The final hurdle and often the most insurmountable one is the cost of dental implants, and unlike other refined areas of new technology, they are unlikely to come down in price. Behind the scenes costs for the prosthodontist are very significant. The materials are high value products, and there are many steps involving many skill sets, not only of human beings but of sophisticated robots. Building a smile that perfectly fits a face, a personality and an expectation is an achievement. At the Pi Dental Center, there is more profit in our profile of success than in dollars and cents, but that is part of our make-up as compassionate, chairside caregivers.

The real thrust for pulling the trigger lies in understanding the value of the smile to human life. Our treated patients tell us everything from it made them feel younger and more vital to it totally changed their lives. A wonderful smile is magnetic. It attracts positive attention and changes the light in which a person is viewed. There is no real measurement for smile power, only that it makes an immeasurable difference that is completely priceless.

This is National Prosthodontics Awareness Week. If you have considered upgrading your smile with dental implants, there is no better time to investigate. Our three Pi prosthodontists are wearing their talent on their sleeves and will welcome your curiosity. A casual, non-threatening visit to the Pi Dental Center might help you make one of the best decisions of your life.

Dr. Alfano discusses AvaDent Digital Dentures Live on CBS Talk Philly

Posted by Pi Dental Center on Oct 17, 2014 1:53:00 PM

Dr. Alfano with Pat Ciarrocchi Live on CBS Philly

Dr. Alfano appeared on CBS Talk Philly with Pat Ciarrocchi where he introduced Avadent Digital Dentures, a new technology available at PI Dental Center in Fort Washington.  Here is the conversation:

Pat Ciarrocchi:  “Well If you have been struggling with your dentures, now `there is some new technology that can give you a custom fit that looks more like natural teeth than custom dentures. Here to talk about it is Dr. Steve Alfano of Pi Dental. You call these digital dentures.”

Dr. Alfano begins,  “Yes, that’s right.  It has been kind of exciting. There have been so many advances in dentistry with implants and crowns. And finally, for someone that loves to make dentures, now we can take advantage of the CAD CAM technology. And this denture is made from a block of acrylic that is processed 50 times stronger. It is made out of this acrylic which is processed in an industry setting so it much stronger than a conventional denture and there is no porosity in it. So it resists bacteria and that smell that you would get.   It is really a wonderful thing.”

Pat:  “You know there are a lot of people who like dental implants, you hear about that, but you say that this is an alternative.”

Alfano:  “Well it is an alternative.  Dental implants are great, that’s state of the art.  You can actually use this product eventually with dental implants. There is a technique to do that. But not everybody can go straight to dental implants.  This is a wonderful product. You can have it made in as little as 2 visits. And if anything happens to it, there is a digital file. They can remake it right away. You don’t have to go through the whole process of having it made again.”

Pat:  “Terrific and look at this, (shows photo of patient).  What a wonderful difference that is.  Isn’t that wonderful?--. And we also wonder if dentures are durable. I think that’s a real concern and we have a fun picture, it’s actually a dog with dentures!  (showing dog chewing on AvaDent denture)

Dr. Alfano: “It is the unofficial dog chew test. So this one survived!  But let’s say something happened and you lost it and you needed another; you can have a new one shipped out, because they maintain a copy. But this dog was not able to destroy the denture. That is nice”.

Pat: “So tell us about Avadent denture.”

Dr. Alfano: “That’s what this is. Avadent is a company that a few years began doing this process. It has come a long way. Drs. Balshi and Wolfinger at Pi Dental Center are working closely with them and really developing the product and it is a wonderful denture.”

Pat: “We really want to make sure that people smile well and that they can eat and enjoy their food.”

Alfano: “It’s a wonderful denture. Thank you.”

Pat: “So if you want more information about Pi Dental Center and also Avadent digital dentures you can go to CBSPhilly.com and click on Talk Philly. When it comes to smiles, the hottest new technology is the digital denture. If you or someone you know is interested in this, or can use the expertise of PI Dental, please visit: http://dentalimplants-usa.com/ ”

Teeth In A Day® Treatment Because Your Time Is Valuable

Posted by Pi Dental Center on Apr 1, 2014 4:49:00 PM

Teeth In a Day Treatment For a Busy Life

As a creative, intelligent, energetic person you have goals and drive to enjoy life, share time with loved ones and make the world a better place. Whether you are painting a beautiful landscape, taking photos in a bustling city, researching to find a phenomenal new discovery, or watching a daughter play on a sports team, your time is so important! Maintaining or restoring a healthy mouth is also important.

TEETH IN A DAY® TREATMENT

You have better things to do than sit in a dental office. The doctors and staff at Pi Dental understand this. That is why shortening dental treatment time is essential.  Teeth In A Day treatment allows us help you achieve the objective of perfecting your smile in the shortest possible time while maintaining your active lifestyle.

Teeth In A Day® treatment allows patients to leave our center with a non-removable interim set of teeth on the very same day as dental implant placement. The final prosthesis is delivered once the implants have osseointegrated (the process of bone fusing to implants) – generally a three-month healing time. Learn more about how long dental implant treatment takes on our web site.

ZYGOMATIC IMPLANTS AND TREATMENT TIME

For many years bone grafting was the preferred treatment choice for patients with very little bone in the upper jaw.  Zygomatic implant treatment is a predictable alternative with a proven success rate.  This option shortens the overall time spent in the dental chair.

TREATMENT UNDER ONE ROOF REDUCES TIME

Providing all dental services in one location simplifies your dental experience — eliminating the need to continually transmit dental records from one office to another and removing the risk of error. Single office care ensures continuity from start to finish.

MAKING TIME FOR YOUR DENTAL HEALTH SAVES MONEY

Avoiding needed dental care is ultimately costly. Bone loss starts to occur as soon as teeth are extracted. This bone loss increases over time. The longer you wait to begin treatment, the more complicated that care becomes.  Waiting until treatment is unavoidable can reduce the treatment options available to you, increase cost and make it a lengthy process.

ONE-HOUR ORAL HYGIENE APPOINTMENT

Once dental implant treatment is completed, insuring that the mouth remains healthy and attractive is key.  Your regular oral hygiene prophylaxis visits are a necessary part of maintaining dental health. The hygiene visits at Pi Dental Center are exactly one hour in length. In most other offices, oral hygiene cleaning appointments are 30 to 45 minutes but we believe that maintenance of your teeth and dental restorations is critical, so investing the extra time is worthwhile.

Since each oral hygiene cleaning appointment is scheduled every hour, keeping on schedule is very important for the dental hygienist. We ask our patients to arrive on time for their scheduled visit to make certain that all patients are seen on a timely basis.

INFORMATION ON WEB SITE REGARDING TREATMENT TIME

We want our patients to learn as much information about their treatment before the process begins. In addition to providing a description of each dental procedure, our web site outlines treatment times along with the number of visits required for the most common procedures that we perform here at Pi Dental Center. Visit the timetable for procedures web page.
